Council Bluffs, IA – Council Bluffs officials hope an economic stimulus plan means $68 million in new projects will move forward.
City officials outlined those projects Tuesday during Iowa Governor Chet Culver's visit. The five projects were chosen from a list of 55 possible ones in ten function areas. They are:
-Improvements to Playland Park
-Utility improvements and road construction in the Southpoint Business Park
-A sanitary sewer project in the Little Pony Creek area
-Road construction and utility extensions in the I-80/U.S. 6 corridor
-Utility extension and street improvements in the Southlands area, where Google is currently building a facility.
Council Bluffs Community Development Director Don Gross says those five projects could create more than 8,000 jobs and lead to $2.8 billion dollars in private investment.
During his visit to Council Bluffs, Governor Culver announced he wants the state to borrow $700 million for infrastructure projects.
