DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An appeals court has reversed the dismissal of a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former Iowa Senate Republican Caucus aide.
The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that the lawsuit from Kirsten Anderson can move forward. A lower court had granted the state's motion to dismiss, but the appeals court rejected the state's argument that her petition was defective.
Anderson's attorney Michael Carroll says Anderson wants her day in court. Anderson, ex-communications director for Senate Republicans, contends that she was fired in 2013 after complaining about sexual harassment by male aides and lawmakers.
Anderson says her supervisors started nitpicking her work after her complaints, then fired her. Republicans say she was fired for performance.
Geoff Greenwood, spokesman for the Iowa Attorney General, says the office is reviewing its options.
