Creighton adds doctoral program in clinical and translational science

Creighton University plans to offer a doctoral program in clinical and translational science starting this fall.

Clinical and translational science takes research done in a laboratory setting and applies it to new treatments or clinical practice. Students study key questions relating to medical conditions, do research, and generate new data that can then apply directly to patient care.

Dr. Devendra Agrawal, director of Creighton’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science, says the program is critical to helping develop a better therapeutic approach to treat diseases.

Dr. Agrawal says there sometimes can be decades between the research and application of its findings. Two students will initially be in the clinical and translational science PhD program. Dr. Agrawal wants the program to eventually have five or six students.
