Creighton Bluejays forward Doug McDermott will return for his senior year.

McDermott, a six-foot-eight forward from Ames, Iowa, announced Thursday that he’ll play college basketball for one more season.

McDermott is the Bluejays’ all-time leading scorer and repeated last season as Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.  Next season, Creighton moves to the new Big East Conference. McDermott says that was one factor in his decision to stay.

"At first I didn’t think it would play that big of a factor, but I think after I thought about it more it was such a good opportunity, you know, not a lot of people can say they played in two different conferences and be able to play in the Garden. So that definitely played a huge factor in it."

McDermott says he changed his mind several times before making the final decision Wednesday.

During the 2012-13 season, McDermott was named a first-team All-American by the AP and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
