Creighton Global Initiative gives out $1.5 million for University proposals

The Creighton Global Initiative recently awarded $1.5 million to 30 different university projects.

Rene Padilla, Executive Director of Global Engagement at Creighton University, says Creighton President, Reverend Daniel Hendrickson, S.J. started the initiative.

Padilla says the initiative is meant to build on global opportunities Creighton already has in place and to support new projects that build institutional relationships across the world.

Padilla says 84 proposals were submitted and after review by a committee of faculty, staff and students, 30 were chosen for funding.

He says those submitting ideas had to offer two ways of identifying their proposals.

"The first piece was an area of interest.  So we asked people to identify if this was about academic enhancement, or if it was the cultivation of a globally conversing campus, if it was something about the impact on Omaha itself, or if it was about international immersion, study abroad kind of experiences.  And the fifth one was institutional innovation.”

Padilla says evaluation criteria included sustainability of the project and possibilities for student development.  He says the final criteria was the enhancement of the institutional mission and identity.
