Omaha, NE – Greg McDermott is the Creighton Bluejays' new men's basketball coach.

McDermott was introduced at a news conference Tuesday. He comes to Creighton from Iowa State, where he was the men's basketball coach for four years. Before that he spent five seasons as the head coach at Northern Iowa.

McDermott says he's excited to coach at a school that shares his values of faith, family and team. "I'm not sure there's an institution that better embodies that better than Creighton University," McDermott says. "I think Omaha is a great fit for my family, the fact that I've spent some time in the state of Nebraska and we've spent a lot of time in Omaha, we know that we can be happy here and we hope to contribute to this community and try to make it a better place if we possibly can."

McDermott began his coaching career at Wayne State University. He says that job and the Iowa State one were "rebuilding" efforts, while the Creighton job is a "retooling" one.

He'll be joined at Creighton by his son, Doug, who previously committed to Northern Iowa. Terms of Greg McDermott's deal at Creighton were not disclosed.
