Creighton University welcomes its largest freshman class in 30 years

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Creighton University students return to class Wednesday, and the university is preparing to welcome its largest freshman class in 30 years.

Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management Don Bishop says 988 Freshmen are enrolled at Creighton. He says the university has added more faculty and improved student housing over the past six years in anticipation of the increased enrollment.

Bishop credits recruitment, national recognition, and new campus additions as reasons for the increase. Creighton was recently recognized on U.S. News and World Report's list of best colleges. However, Bishop says the economy will make it difficult for Creighton to continue to recruit near-record classes. He says all colleges, including Creighton, need to continue to look at ways of making college affordable for all families.

Projected fall semester enrollment is 7,000 students, including 4,100 full-time.
