Creighton University's Lawler Lecture set for tomorrow afternoon

“The Mysticism of Saint Augustine” is the topic of this year’s Lawler Lecture in Catholic Theology at Creighton University’sCollege of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. John Peter Kenney, Professor of Religious Studies at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, is the guest speaker.

He will talk about St. Augustine, who was born about 354 in Algeria and is considered one of the important figures in the development in Christianity.

Dr. Kenney says St. Augustine had an interesting and complicated past.  He says St. Augustine was part of the formative phase of Christianity once it became legal.

"It gives us a chance to drill down to what are core elements in the Christian tradition.  Because this is somebody who is telling us what Christianity looked like in that original form as the main elements of Christian Orthodoxy, Catholicism, are being articulated.”

Dr. Kenney’s lecture takes place in room 3023 of Creighton University’s Harper Center Wednesday afternoon.  A pre-lecture reception starts at 4:15 p.m.

The event is open to everyone and is free of charge.
