Crisis Center Changes Name

As of November 1st, The Crisis Center for Domestic and Sexual Assault officially changed its name to “The Bridge.”

Sarah Monke, Outreach Program Coordinator for The Bridge, says the new name more accurately reflects the range of services they provide.

Monke says The Bridge serves a five-county area including: Burt, Cuming, Dodge, Saunders and Washington counties.  She says The Bridge is a place where violence ends and empowerment begins.

"Just a few years ago we focused mostly on providing crisis intervention services but research has shown that prevention and early intervention efforts are effective in reducing domestic violence and abusive behavior.  So we’ve expanded our services to provide more prevention programming.”

Monke says The Bridge has developed programs that address internet/texting safety, conflict resolution and healthy/unhealthy relationships.  The crisis center first opened in 1981.
