Cybersecurity is the focus of Matt Morton's Press Club presentation

Matt Morton, Chief Information Security Officer & Assistant CIO for UNO was the special guest at an Omaha Press Club Noon Forum earlier this month.

Morton’s presentation focused on Cybersecurity in a Global Economy.

He discussed ways people can understand how complicated cybersecurity is and how people can protect themselves when they’re online.

Morton said in the wake of the recent breach of the Office of Personnel Management, the country is now more focused on this issue.

He said he believes the country will make even more headway now in preventing these types of attacks.

"And there is more information sharing going on now between government agencies, the private sector and non-profit sector than there ever has been.  There are multiple organizations being developed and multiple that are in the process of being developed by Homeland Security and the FBI to help us all work together to defend against these attacks.”

If you are a victim of a cyber crime, Morton said the first thing you should do is report it to the Internet Complaint Crime Unit at www.ic3.gov, because without reports, no one may know what’s going on.

Morton said UNO uses shared data from the FBI and Homeland Security to block 2.5 million potential cyber attacks each day.

Matt Morton’s presentation will air in its entirety on KIOS on Monday, September 14th at Noon.
