Daub running again for Mayor of Omaha

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Former Omaha Mayor Hal Daub is once again running for that job.

Daub made that announcement Monday morning at his west Omaha campaign headquarters. He served as Mayor from 1995 to 2001, when he lost the election to current Mayor Mike Fahey.

He says his campaign will center around three issues: crime, taxes and economic progress. Daub says the city needs to take a proactive approach to crime and fully staff the Police Department. He says Omahans shouldn't have to pay more taxes during a recession. But Daub says he can't promise he'd cut taxes if elected. Daub says leaving public life for eight years has given him a different perspective and new ideas.

Omaha's Mayoral election is May 12, 2009. There could be additional Mayoral candidacy announcements in coming weeks.
