Democrat Dan Quick wins contested Nebraska legislative race

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Democratic candidate for Nebraska Legislature has won a tight race in Grand Island, based on unofficial results.

Dan Quick narrowly defeated Republican Gregg Neuhaus once all votes were counted. Hall County Election Commissioner Dale Baker says the results will be declared official on Tuesday.

Quick received 5,744 votes, while Neuhaus garnered 5,668 in the contest to represent Legislative District 35. The latest vote totals were posted online Monday.

Quick will replace state Sen. Mike Gloor, a Republican from Grand Island.

With Quick's victory, the Legislature will consist of 32 registered Republicans, 15 Democrats, one Libertarian and one left-leaning independent.
