Democratic incumbent concedes in Nebraska's 2nd District

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Republican Don Bacon has won Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District seat and defeated incumbent Democrat Brad Ashford.

Ashford held a news conference Wednesday morning to reflect on what he accomplished in his one term in the U.S. House, such as moving closer to building a new veterans' hospital in Omaha and securing funding for an infectious disease training program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Ashford says serving in Congress represented a dream come true because he had the opportunity to teach Washington about Nebraska values.

Ashford conceded Wednesday after Bacon held onto a narrow lead after all the votes were counted.

Bacon, a retired U.S. Air Force brigadier general, ran on a platform of smaller government. Ashford campaigned as an experienced moderate adept at working across party lines.
