Do Space offers a Girls Who Code Club

Do Space will offer a Girls Who Code Club starting this fall.

The club is open to girls in 6th through 8th grade and is meant to empower girls to learn software and web development as well as build applications so they can have a voice in the technology industry.

Rebecca Stavick, Executive Director for Do Space, says the club is one of many around Omaha.

Stavick says Girls Who Code is a national non-profit that seeks to eliminate the gender gap in the technology field.

She says the 12-week club gives the girls an opportunity to really delve into software and web development.

"We’re working with an instructor who is a tech leader in the community who works at Omaha Code School.  This gives the girls a female tech leader to look up to.  So they’ll be coming in and working together to design and develop different products that will make a positive difference in the community.”

Stavick says the Girls Who Code Club will start September 25th and run Sundays from 3 to 5 through March 26th

There is an informational session this Sunday at 3 at Do Space and the deadline for applications is August 28th
