Douglas County Attorney to seek re-election

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine has filed for re-election. He is seeking election to a third four-year term.

Kleine filed his campaign paperwork Wednesday with the Douglas County Election Commissioner's Office.

Kleine said in a written statement that he looks forward "to continuing to represent the people of Douglas County in an ethical, even-handed and fiscally responsible manner."

Kleine's office is currently prosecuting several high-profile murder cases, including that of Anthony Garcia, a former doctor accused of killing four people with ties to the Creighton University Medical School residency program from which he was fired. Kleine's office is also prosecuting Nikko Jenkins, charged with killing four people in Omaha at random within weeks of his July release from prison.
