Douglas County board approves pay raises for board members

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Douglas County board members have voted themselves a more than 30 percent pay raise over two years.

The Omaha World-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1P6CZ7u ) that the board voted 4-3 Tuesday to raise members' pay from the current $37,304 a year to $43,594 in 2017. The salary will then increase to $49,884 in 2018.

Board member Mike Boyle defended the increase, saying it will bring members' pay in line with salaries of other county boards in Nebraska.

Boyle and fellow members Chris Rodgers, Jim Cavanaugh and Clare Duda voted for the raises. Board members Mary Ann Borgeson, P.J. Morgan and Marc Kraft voted against them.
