OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved placing a $45 million public safety bond issue on the November ballot.
The money from the bond issue, if approved by voters, would be used to improve the county's 911 system, make improvements to the county jail's plumbing and replace sheriff's office and police radios that will soon become obsolete.
Voters rejected a similar bond issue in 2014. County officials say the passage of the bond is now dire and that public safety would be jeopardized without it.
County officials say the bond issue is not expected to increase taxes.
