Douglas County budget includes more money for bridge projects

Douglas County’s new fiscal year budget does not include a property tax increase.

Commissioners approved the $368.3 million budget on Tuesday. The county’s new fiscal year began July first.

Budget and Finance Director Joe Lorenz says road and bridge funding increased nearly $12 million in the new budget. Those projects are not funded by property tax money.

Lorenz told Commissioners the budget also accounts for increases in health care and juvenile court costs.

The county’s general fund budget grew two percent in the new fiscal year. 41 percent of Douglas County’s revenue comes from property taxes.
