Douglas County flu shot clinics begin next week

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The Douglas County Health Department plans to offer flu shot clinics starting next Thursday.

Health Department officials say the first clinic will be held November fifth at First United Methodist Church, at 7020 Cass Street in Omaha. The clinic will be open from nine AM to eight PM. The following high-risk groups can be vaccinated against swine flu at one of the clinics:

-pregnant women
-Young people ages six months to 24 years old
-People who live with or care for babies under six months old
-25 to 64 year olds with chronic health conditions
-health care workers and emergency services personnel

After the November 5 clinic, the Health Department plans to offer weekly clinics. The next two will be November 10 at Burke High School and November 12 at Benson High School. Children need to have a consent form from their parents before getting vaccinated. As many as 20 clinics are planned.

The Health Department says there will eventually be enough vaccine in the community for everyone who wants a flu shot. Health officials anticipate having at least 5,000 doses available for each clinic.
