Douglas County has chosen five finalists for a new official seal.
The County Board’s Government Awareness Committee began the seal contest in July as part of the Centennial Celebration for the county courthouse. The design had to include two elements: 1854, and the name.
Commissioner Mary Ann Borgeson says the committee wanted a clear image for Douglas County. “We had five different seals that were never really adopted by any county board, and we just didn’t have a real concrete understanding of what our seal was or where it came from.”
The five finalists were chosen from 26 entries. Commissioners will choose the winning design on October 16th. All 26 seals will be on display at the Centennial Celebration October 20th.
