The Downtown Omaha Lit Fest kicks off this Thursday

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Downtown Omaha Lit Fest takes place Thursday through Saturday.

Director Timothy Schaffert says the three day lit fest will feature authors, journalists and visual artists discussing the mechanics of creativity. He says panel discussions will focus on the writing process.

Friday night, guests can enjoy a reception and two art exhibits. Schaeffert says the first exhibit is called "Possessions: Literary characters and the things they carried."

"Artists have interpreted objects from literature and created representations like Mary Poppins' umbrella or Hester Prynne's scarlet letter. And also an exhibit of reconceived classic book covers by some area graphic designers."

Lit Fest closes with a presentation by Terese Svoboda, author of Bohemian Girl. Svoboda will speak about her novel and historical fiction. All Lit Fest events are complimentary.
