OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — State lawmaker and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Annette Dubas says it's important for Nebraska to have an ample cash reserve to help the state pull through any future economic crisis.
Dubas' made the remarks Thursday at a news conference to announce her endorsement for governor by 14 current and former state lawmakers. Her remarks were in response to questions about what results she expects from a six-month study of the state's tax system by the Legislature's Tax Modernization Committee.
Many Republicans, including Governor Dave Heineman, have called for tax cuts to reform the state's system. But Dubas said the state's cash reserve "served us very well when we went through our last budget crisis."
Dubas faces former University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook in the May primary.
