Early voting for May 11th primary underway

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Early voting is underway for the May 11th primary.

You have until May 5th to request an early voting ballot by mail, and May 10th to vote in-person at the Election Commission office. Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps says he's surprised by a lack of interest so far in early voting given the races on the ballot. They include the Second Congressional District race and several bond issues in Omaha.

Phipps says it's too early to predict what turnout for the primary will be. Two years ago, turnout was 15 percent. In 2004 24 percent of Douglas County's registered voters participated in the primary.

More information on the 2010 races and polling locations is available at www.votedouglascounty.com.
