Ebola Information Line working to reassure public

Douglas County Health Department officials say a hotline set up to answer questions about Ebola has worked well.

The Ebola Information Line was set up after Dr. Rick Sacra, an American doctor who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia, was brought to Nebraska Medical Center for treatment. Health Department Director Dr. Adi Pour says they received 65 calls on September 5th, the first day the line was open. Since then, they’ve received a handful of calls Monday through Friday.

Pour says there are four top questions people ask.

"One was how is Ebola spread, so we talked about that. The signs and symptoms was number two. How can health care providers protect themselves, and one that is still going on, every day we get one of those, is I have an appointment at the Medical Center, is it safe for me to go there."

Pour says they reassure callers that it is safe to go to the Medical Center, because the biocontainment unit is a safe, secure area. The Ebola Information Line is 402-444-3400.

Medical Center officials say Dr. Sacra’s condition continues to improve.
