Education Leaders Highlight the Need for More School Choice in Nebraska

The Platte Institute is hosting an event next Wednesday evening at the Durham Museum to coincide with National School Choice Week.

CEO Jim Vokal says they will offer the preview of a documentary film called, “The Ticket: The Many Faces of School Choice.”

Vokal says the documentary aims to show the public there is a need for different school options. He says many of these options have proven to be successful across the country.

"School choice is certainly important as it relates to Nebraska as Nebraska is one of only eight states that doesn’t have legislation to allow for some of these additional educational options other than the traditional public schools.  So examples would be charter schools, vouchers, parent triggers, tax scholarships.”

“The Ticket” will be shown next Wednesday, January 29th at 5:00 p.m. in the Durham Museum.  A roundtable discussion follows the film.

Speakers will include Anthony Vargas, Board Member for Nebraska Alliance for Quality Education and Senator Scott Lautenbaugh.
