Elkhorn High School student writing series of books

An Elkhorn High School sophomore is about to become a published author, with a book based on Greek mythology.

Brandon Bauer is working on a series of seven books called “Heroes of Light.” The first, “The Hidden Myth,” comes out this week. It’s about Hercules and Perseus, and overcoming challenges.

Bauer has overcome challenges in his life. He was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate, and has other physical limitations. Bauer says a lifelong love of reading, and childhood experiences, inspired him to write.

“When I was a kid, I always liked reading books, and I always wanted to make one of my own. And the Greek mythology, my uncle got me a few books about Greek mythology. And I saw the Percy Jackson movie. And that’s how I got in to Greek mythology, and in to writing.”

He wrote the first book in the series at age 11. Bauer says his skills have improved with each book.

“When I’m researching about Greek mythology to find stories for my books, I learn a lot more about Greek mythology. And I also like the editing process, I can improve my grammar skills and writing abilities.”

Bauer has completed the first three books in the Heroes of Light series, and has outlines done for the next four. His target audience is nine to 16-year-olds.
