St. Patrick’s Day is one of our most popular days of celebration, the food, the music and the green beer.
Unfortunately, it can also be one of the most dangerous days of the year, especially on the road due to drunk drivers.
The Douglas County Health Department says those deaths are preventable and encourage people to make plans now for a safe trip home on Friday.
Dr. Adi Pour, Director of the Douglas County Health Department says you should designate a sober, reliable driver to get you home, leave your keys at home before you take your first drink and commit to driving sober.
If you can’t find a friend to drive you, Dr. Pour advises finding the numbers of a taxi company or two and put their numbers in your phone.
Dr. Pour says, “Too many people are not getting the message: Drunk driving is dangerous and illegal. It doesn’t have to happen.”
