Envelope full of cash found on Omaha street, given to police

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha police officials are waiting for someone to claim money that was found stuffed in an envelope found on a street.

Police spokesman Jake Bettin (buh-TEEN') tells Omaha television station KETV that a person walked into the northwest precinct station Tuesday morning and turned over the envelope. The person reported that the envelope had been found in the middle of a roadway in the southwest part of Omaha.

Bettin wouldn't say how much money was in the envelope, but he says there's plenty of information on the envelope and items inside that only the owner would know.

A city ordinance says the owner of found property that isn't illegal has 30 days to claim it. After 30 days the finder can claim the property.
