EPA Region 7 Awards Together, Inc. Environmental Justice Grant

Together Incorporated of Metro Omaha recently received a $30,000 grant from the Environment Protection Agency Region 7.

The grant money will be used for a program called Healthy Homes which will help improve the quality of the indoor environment for Together, Inc’s clients.

Althea Moses, Environmental Justice Program Manager, says the assessment will look at a host of indoor environmental hazards.

Moses says once the assessment is complete, homeowners will work with Together, Inc. staff to create a plan to address and correct any issues that are found during the review…

"Looking for the existence of lead based paint hazards.  They will also be concerned about indoor air quality and mold.  And also radon, because radon is a significant concern in the Midwest and contributes to lung cancer.”

Moses says homes will also be inspected for leaks whether under the sink or from the roof since leaks can often cause mold.

She says homes will also be evaluated for energy efficiency.  EPA Region 7 includes Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Nine Tribal Nations. For more information, the website is www2.epa.gov/ne.
