A new report on drought conditions shows 90 percent of Nebraska is now in an extreme drought. The National Drought Mitigation Center at UNL compiles the weekly report, which was released Thursday morning. Drought conditions in Nebraska are largely unchanged from last week, although more of the Omaha metro area is now in extreme conditions.

60 percent of Iowa, including all of western Iowa, is now in an extreme drought.  That’s up from 30 percent last week.

The drought report is based on conditions as of Tuesday and won’t account for the rainfall this week.  Mark Svoboda of the National Drought Mitigation Center says warmer than normal temperatures are forecast to continue through next week.
