Father Robert Sirico Defends the Free Market at Creighton

On Wednesday, the Creighton Institute for Economic Inquiry will host a lecture by Father Robert Sirico.

Ernie Goss, MacAllister Chair and Professor of Economics at Creighton, says Sirico is the president of the Acton Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan and author of the book, Defending the Free Market

Goss says Sirico, who once identified as a liberal back in the 70s and 80s, is now recognized as coming more from a conservative point of view in his defense of capitalism.

He says Sirico talks about how, according to his beliefs, market systems serve the poor.

"And provide a greater economic opportunity, greater economic outcomes for the less advantaged than other systems, whether it be Marxist or Socialist or any other system.  So that’s sort of the premise of his writings.”

Defending the Free Market with Robert Sirico takes place at Creighton’s Harper Center Auditorium Wednesday at 8 am.
