Festersen, Gray seek re-election to City Council Districts 1 and 2

Incumbent Councilman Pete Festersen and Dr. Ed Truemper, a critical care pediatrician, are seeking election to the District 1 City Council seat.

Festersen was elected to the city council in 2009. District One includes parts of Dundee and Benson. Both areas are in the midst of renovation projects. According to his campaign website, Festersen says his primary campaign issues are pension reform and addressing violent crime.

Dr. Ed Truemper is a critical care pediatrician at Childrens Hospital and Medical Center and at UNMC. He identifies his key campaign issues as neighborhood improvement, fiscal transparency, pension reform, and efficiency in city services.

In District 2, a retired Omaha Police officer is challenging incumbent Ben Gray.

Gray was elected to the city council in 2009. District Two covers north Omaha. Gray is a former television anchor and videographer at KETV. He says his key campaign issue is working to reduce violent crime.

Gray’s challenger in the District Two race is Tariq Al-Amin. Al-Amin spent more than 25 years on the Omaha Police Department. He says he’ll focus on improving north Omaha neighborhoods, bringing jobs to the District, and addressing violent crime.

Information on voter registration deadlines and polling places is available at www.votedouglascounty.com. Omaha's general election is May 14.
