Film Streams' second annual Local Filmmakers Showcase kicks off August 19th

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – Film Streams' 2011 Local Filmmakers Showcase features seven films all created by Nebraska filmmakers.

Executive Director Rachel Jacobson says though the competition was open to filmmakers in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota, the bulk of the submissions were from Nebraska. She says films were selected by an independent jury. In order to qualify for consideration, films cannot have screened anywhere for a paying audience.

Jacobson says each of the films in the showcase is unique, "There's an experimental short by a musician in town. There's one that's actually a very short film that's a montage of photographs so it kind of becomes this really interesting stop-motion experience. There's one that's black and white, that's almost a melodrama. It's a really well acted, narrative film."

All films will be screened together daily during the showcase with a run time of 100 minutes. Jacobson encourages anyone who has made a film in the last ten years, to submit an entry for next year's showcase. She says the more entries there are, the better the selection for judges and audiences.

Tickets for Film Streams' Local Filmmakers Showcase are available online at filmstreams.org.
