Film Streams wants to thank the Academy

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded Film Streams a $7,500 institutional grant.

Executive Director Rachel Jacobson says AMPAS likes to support visiting artists and filmmakers in cities that might not otherwise have the opportunity to talk to a filmmaker about his or her film after watching it. She says one of the most successful visiting artists last year was the Alloy Orchestra. Jacobson says the three-piece ensemble plays live scores to silent films. With the AMPAS grant, she says Film Streams plans to bring the orchestra back this fall to launch a new series,"And they're going to do a bunch of short, silent films they've already scored. That's going to be really terrific. And then that's going to launch a whole series of musicians playing silent films. And several of them are going to come in from out of town and that Academy grant is going to help a lot. So, we're really excited about that whole program."
