Closing installment of three part concert series features Phil WoodsBy Chris Cooke

Omaha, Nebraska – The final installment of a three part concert series featuring the United States Air Force's premier jazz ensemble will air Friday on KIOS.

The Jazz Heritage Concert Series has showcased the United States Air Force Airmen of Note with special guests. The Airmen of Note is comprised of eighteen musicians who tour throughout the United States twice a year, one of the few big bands these days to do so.

Veteran broadcaster John Tegler hosts the Airmen of Note broadcasts, which originate from Washington and have aired nationally for the first time this year.

The concert series concludes this Friday with a performance with special guest Phil Woods.
Woods is internationally recognized as a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer.
Career highlights include working in Quincy Jones' "Free and Easy" band in the early 1960s as well as the saxophone solo on Billy Joel's 70's megahit "Just The Way You Are". Woods has worked with music legends Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Benny Goodman, Thelonious Monk, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Art Pepper, and others.
Woods is a master of jazz saxophone who has sustained the bop tradition created by Charlie Parker and continues to record and perform with prestigious bands worldwide.

Tune in for this year's final USAF Airmen of Note concert broadcast with special guest Phil Woods on Friday, June 14 at 1:00pm on KIOS.

Chris Cooke is the host of Jazz in the Afternoon and Last Call on KIOS-FM.
