Final Neb. tax hearings set for Lincoln, Omaha

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Legislature's Tax Modernization Committee is set to hold its final public hearings in Omaha and Lincoln.

The legislative panel will convene at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha on Oct. 17, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Its last public hearing is set for Oct. 18 at the Capitol in Lincoln, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lawmakers created the panel earlier this year to examine Nebraska's tax system and to gather public input. The committee is investigating ways to make the tax system fairer, simpler and more competitive.

The group has already held hearings in Scottsbluff, North Platte and Norfolk.
