Fireworks/Gun Amnesty Day set for Saturday

The Omaha Police Department will host a Metro Area Fireworks/Gun Amnesty Day on Saturday, July 9th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those who have fireworks or guns they would like to properly dispose of can do so at one of three metro area drop off locations:  Omaha Fire Station #43, at 5505 North 103rd Street, Seymour Smith Park, at 72nd and Harrison Streets and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, 1400 Big Lake Road, Council Bluffs, in the west parking lot.

All fireworks, ammunition and guns will be accepted, no questions asked. The Fireworks/Gun Amnesty Day also gives authorities the chance to educate the public on the dangers of fireworks and other explosives.

Agencies participating in the event include the Omaha Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Nebraska State Fire Marshal and the Omaha Public Works Department.
