Firm picks new Omaha location, after dropping downtown plans

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Architecture and engineering firm HDR has chosen a central Omaha location for its new global headquarters after dropping its earlier downtown plans.

HDR Chairman and CEO George Little said Thursday that his company will build a ten-story office tower in Aksarban Village just north of 67th Street and West Center Road.

The new building will have 228,218 square feet and space for roughly 1,150 employees. The site also has room for a second building to be built in the future if HDR needs more space.

Little says the site is a good fit because of its location and nearby amenities, including restaurants, hotels and a walking trail.

The company now is based at a suburban-style campus west of downtown that Little says HDR has outgrown.
