First of two swimming pools inside Qwest Center Omaha almost complete

By Katie Knapp

Omaha, NE – Work is nearly complete on the first of two swimming pools being built inside Qwest Center Omaha.

The swimming pools are for the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational and the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials. Construction began last Monday on the warm-up pool, which is inside Halls B and C of the Convention Center. Omaha Sports Commission Chairman Harley Schrager says that swimming pool is about two days away from completion.

At the same time, construction is underway on the competition pool. It'll take up the first nine rows inside the Qwest Center Omaha arena. Schrager says the walls are going up and the competition pool should be finished in about a week.

The total project cost is $2 million. Each pool holds one million gallons of water.

15 to 20 workers are building the competition pool.
