Flood warnings follow heavy rain in southeast Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Flash flood warnings and watches have been issued for Lincoln and other southeast Nebraska communities in the wake of heavy overnight storms.

Rain continued to fall Thursday morning in several areas, and more storms were expected later in the day and overnight. Minor flooding forced the closure of several roads in Lincoln and other cities.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Lincoln recorded nearly 2.7 inches of rain at the airport overnight, but that figure didn't include rain that fell during the morning rush hour. The weather also was blamed for a Lincoln power outage that has since been remedied.

The National Weather Service says the Big Blue River near Crete is above flood stage and is expected to rise to 4 feet above flood stage by Friday morning.
