Flu season underway in Douglas County
By Katie Knapp
Omaha, NE – Health Department Director Dr. Adi Pour says usually cases of influenza are reported in Douglas County in December. The first confirmed case happened in January this year, which Pour says is an indication of a slow start to the flu season. She says the best way to protect yourself from getting the flu is to get a flu shot, and there's still an ample supply of the vaccine available. Dr. Pour says other ways you can avoid becoming ill are to get plenty of sleep, wash your hands frequently, avoid close contact with those who are ill, and stay home if you have the flu.
