Food Day Omaha takes place Saturday

Food Day is a national celebration focused on sustainable food, local food and healthy food policy.

Food Day Omaha takes place tomorrow from 8 to Noon in the Old Market.

All events and activities will take place adjacent to the Omaha Farmers Market.

John Heaston, one of the Food Day organizers, says the event centers on a vision of food that is healthy, affordable and produced with care for the environment, farm animals and the people who grow, harvest and serve it.

"Food Day Omaha and Food Day nationally kind of falls around the harvest time, toward the end of the season.  But just like the Farmers Market will eventually be year round, Food Day is every day.  Raising awareness and educating people about food policy is really important and we hope that, with this being our fifth year, that it continues to grow and raise awareness as it has.”

There will be more than 20 local food and health-related organizations providing activities, information and demonstrations to raise awareness about their specific focuses.

Those attending may talk with experts about local growing, cooking and agriculture.

There is no charge to attend Food Day Omaha.  For more information, the website is www.FoodDayOmaha.com
