Former Husker teammates Hook Up Again With Kansas City Royals

Greg Echlin

When the Kansas City Royals held their first full-squad workouts Tuesday, two former Huskers teammates re-united.

Last year, former Huskers Alex Gordon and Joba Chamberlain were teammates again with the Omaha Storm Chasers and Kansas City Royals.  But since then, Chamberlain has moved on and Gordon, fully healthy again, is armed with a lucrative new contract in Kansas City.

Now it’s Brian Duensing’s turn to rejoin Alex Gordon as a teammate again after their days with the Huskers.

“We were college roommates,” said Duensing.  “We lived together at college and all that stuff.  Our wives are sorority sisters.”

Duensing also likes to needle Gordon.

“I got married first.  I made him (Gordon) a groomsman.  He got married second and made me an usher, so I don’t think he returned the favor very well,” said Duensing with tongue-in-cheek.  “He said something about six brothers.  I don’t know.  I think he lied.”

From pitching with the Minnesota Twins, the only batter that Duensing faced more often than Gordon was former American League MVP Miguel Cabrera.

Duensing is glad he doesn’t have to pitch to Gordon anymore.
