Former Ralston schools leader named interim superintendent of OPS

The former leader of the Ralston Public Schools will be OPS’ new interim superintendent.

The Omaha Public Schoolsboard voted 8-4 Monday morning to name Virginia Moon as interim superintendent. Moon spent the past two years as interim superintendent in Broken Bow. Before that, she was superintendent in Ralston for more than a decade.

Moon’s start date with OPS hasn’t yet been determined. Current superintendent John Mackiel is retiring August 31 after 40 years with OPS.

Board members Shirley Tyree, Mary Ellen Drickey, Nancy Kratky, and Sandra Jensen voted against Moon's appointment as interim superintendent.
