Former Sen. Chuck Hagel confirmed as Secretary of Defense

Former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel will be the next Secretary of Defense.

The Senate voted 58-to-41 Tuesday afternoon in favor of Hagel’s nomination. Earlier Tuesday, Senators voted to move forward with Hagel’s nomination.

Hagel served two terms in the U.S. Senate before retiring in 2008. He’s a Vietnam War veteran and a 1971 graduate of UNO.
