LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson says he'll be stepping down from his post as CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
Nelson, who also is a former governor of Nebraska, says he'll be leaving the position on Jan. 31 and will return to private law practice in Nebraska and Washington, D.C.
Nelson was Nebraska's insurance commissioner in 1975 and 1976 and worked for the association from 1982 to 1985. He served as governor of Nebraska from 1991 to 1999 and as one of Nebraska's U.S. senators from 2001 to 2013. He became CEO of the insurance commissioner organization after leaving the Senate.
