Omaha, NE – A Creighton University alumnus is the school's new president.

Father Timothy Lannon was introduced Friday as the new president of Creighton University. He'll succeed Father John Schlegel, who's retiring next July. Father Lannon graduated from Creighton in 1973 with a degree in mathematics.

Fr. Lannon comes to Creighton from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, where he's served as president since 2003. He was also president of Creighton Prep High School from 1988 to 1995.

Lannon says universities face financial issues today, along with the challenges of online learning, attracting quality faculty, and providing scholarships.

Fr. Schlegel is leaving Creighton in July 2011 to pursue other opportunities in ministry.
