Free Summer Meal Programs are Underway Across the State

Hunger Free Heartland hosted a kickoff event on June 1st at Millard Public Schools’ Holling Heights Elementary to announce the start of free summer meals programs across the state.

Executive director, Rachel Olive, explains the importance of these meals for students in Millard and across the state.

"Today marks the day that we kickoff summer meals all across Nebraska and we picked starting here in Millard because a lot of people think that kids in Millard don’t necessarily need assistance but when schools out they’re missing out on two actual meals that they could be getting at school. So summer meals supplements this and its free of charge, there’s no registration, you just come down and get the food that Millard home schools offers.”

Olive explains there are over 200 sites throughout Nebraska that will be offering free meals during the summer for students through this program.
