Friday deadline for Recall Committee to collect signatures

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The Mayor Suttle Recall Committee is approaching a Friday deadline for collecting nearly 27,000 signatures.

Recall Committee members and volunteers began circulating petitions October 21st. They must collect 26,643 signatures to force a recall election of Mayor Jim Suttle.

Committee spokesman Jeremy Aspen says they know exactly how many signatures have been collected so far. But details won't be released until sometime Friday, when the petitions are turned in to the Douglas County Election Commission.

Election Commissioner Dave Phipps says his office has 15 days to verify the signatures once petitions are turned in. The deadline for verification is December fourth.

Omahans recalled former Mayor Mike Boyle in 1987.
