The Fund for Omaha announces its spring grant recipients

By Cheril Lee

Omaha, NE – The Fund for Omaha recently announced spring grant award winners.

Sarah Gilbert, Associate Director of Philanthropic Services, says these are known as Greatest Need Grants. She says the funds are open to any non-profit in the greater Omaha area. This spring, 82 proposals came before the committee. Gilbert says the committee tries to focus the grant funds where they can do the most good. She says there were 14 award winners this spring, "Youth Emergency Services provides services and shelter for homeless youth in our community. And that's an example of a grant that was for operating expenses. We also make program grants. An example of that was to Charles Drew Health Center. And that was a $10,000 grant specifically for the Spice of Life healthy cooking and foods program, so encouraging healthy eating choices and eating skills in the community that they serve."

Gilbert says almost $175,000 was awarded this spring. The deadline for fall applications is September 1st. Details are available online at omahafoundation.org.
